Sparks Drop a Game to Phoenix Mercury, 99-92

DeLisha Milton-Jones led the Sparks with a career high 38 points but it wasn’t enough to pull out a win against the Phoenix Mercury.

Milton-Jones scored 26 of her 38 points during the first half, shooting 65% overall and hitting 5-of-8 from 3 point range. She also contributed 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

To open the 1st quarter, Milton-Jones hit her first 6 shots, including 4 3s. Her back-to-back 3s helped the Sparks gain a 30-17 lead with less than a minute left in the period.

But the Sparks were careless with the ball and committed 23 turnovers which converted into 25 points for the Mercury, allowing them to stay in the game.

The Mercury led by 10 going into the final quarter. As the clock ran down, Lisa Leslie and Milton-Jones both missed key shots, with seconds left in regulation.

Phoenix guard, Diana Taurasi hit 4 free throws to seal the win for Phoenix.

Candace Parker hit her 12th double-double of the season, scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds.
